What is a dry cough? What are the symptoms ?
A dry cough is a cough that does not produce phlegm. We also speak of non-productive coughs, or irritative coughs. “It can manifest itself in the form of fits that are difficult to stop or, on the contrary, episodes of short-term coughing”, notes Health Insurance. It can be hoarse (often in the case of laryngitis), or occur at night, especially in the case of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
If it is sometimes isolated, the cough is generally associated with other symptoms: fever, shortness of breath, pain in the chest, vomiting, fatigue, body aches, rhinitis…
Particularly annoying at night, sometimes painful, dry coughing spelling are very tiring and can affect the quality of life.
Dry or oily cough?
An irritating cough without sputum is said to be dry. If the person spits, the cough is “fatty” or productive and is accompanied by a translucent, thick sputum of variable yellowish or greenish color, sometimes streaked with blood.
The ideal is to use hydrosol of chamomile and lemon balm, which can be found in certain pharmacies or natural product stores (Phytofrance, Essenciagua labs, Aroma-Zone…).
