Empty calories in alcohol: what are they?

An alcoholic drink is a liquid containing mainly ethanol, obtained by distillation of fermented fruit juices, cereals… An alcoholic drink is generally very rich in sugar, and very caloric.

You should know that in terms of nutrition, there are two types of calories:

full calories, which contain nutrients essential to the proper functioning of the body: minerals, proteins, vitamins, fat acids, fibre, etc.;

empty calories, which contain mostly “bad” nutrients, such as refined sugar and saturated fats, and do not provide any benefit to the body.

Alcohol, on the other hand, provides only empty calories. When we ingest alcohol, the nutritional intake is nil, but the excess will be gradually stored as fat in our cells.
